Lansing is a proper exterior lantern rather than a decorative fitting pressed into outdoor service. The dark bronze frame carries brown smoke glass, which softens the light source and gives the fitting depth in daylight, when an exterior light spends most of its life being looked at rather than used. At fifteen inches it is the small size in the family, scaled for a standard porch or side entrance.
Smoke glass is a considered choice here. It cuts the harshness of a bare lamp, throws a warmer, more forgiving light across a doorway, and hides the interior of the fitting so the lantern reads as a solid object rather than a glass box with hardware inside. Against brick, stone and painted timber, dark bronze reads as traditional without tipping into pastiche.
