Harbour Hanging Solar Lantern, Warm White

The Harbour Lantern is meant to hang. Suspended from a pergola beam, a shepherd's hook, a tree branch or a porch bracket, it puts a warm point of light at eye level, which is what gives a seating area the enclosed, occupied feeling that ground-level lighting never quite achieves on its own. The lantern silhouette carries the look during daylight hours as well.

Power comes from an integrated solar panel in the lid, with a dusk sensor that brings the lantern on automatically as light fades. There is no cable, which means the lantern can hang anywhere that will take its weight, including well away from the house, and it can be moved seasonally between a patio in summer and a porch in winter without any rewiring.

The warm white output is deliberately soft rather than bright; the intention is atmosphere, not floodlighting, and two or three lanterns at different heights read considerably better than one bright unit. The housing is weather resistant for normal outdoor exposure but is not built for submersion. Charge time depends on daily sun, so hang where the lid catches direct light rather than sitting under dense foliage. Wipe the panel clear of dust and pollen every few weeks through the summer, as a filmed-over lid loses charge noticeably faster than most people expect.
