Sayer Wall Sconce, 15-Inch Aged Brass

Sayer is a single wall sconce in aged brass with a cloud glass shade, and cloud glass is the reason to choose it. The glass is clouded rather than clear or fully opaque, so the light source is visible as a soft glow rather than a hard point, and the shade itself has depth and movement in the material that flat opal glass simply does not offer.

Aged brass arrives already softened rather than bright, which means it sits comfortably in a period property from the day it goes up instead of needing years to settle in. Against painted panelling, warm plaster or a deep wall colour it reads as considered and unshowy, and it pairs naturally with brass door hardware and taps elsewhere in the house.

At fifteen inches it works flanking a bathroom mirror, along a hallway, either side of a bed as a space-saving alternative to table lamps, or in a living room where wall light is wanted without surrendering a surface. It is damp rated, so bathrooms are within scope. Installation is hardwired and should be carried out by a qualified electrician, who will confirm the correct bathroom zone where relevant. Mounted beside a bed, set the height so the shade sits above a seated sightline rather than directly in it.
